It is a long way from taking photos to catalogise, to modify and to archive them in a secure way.
Here I eyplain ONE way how to proceed with all the photos. It’s the way I currently do and I have good experience with it.
It might not be the way you prefer, so regard this as an example. The software I use for dealing with the pictures is Adobe Lightroom (LR)
- Load all your photos from your camera to your C: drive of the computer.
(of course, the photos are all taken as RAW) - Copy all the photos from the C: drive of the computer to the external hard disk nr 1
- Copy all the photos from the C: drive of the computer to the external hard disk nr 2
- Lean back, you have made a full backup of your pictures.
- Import the photos into Lightroom
by using presets for importing all pictures get automatically IPTC info and tags you defined - Shortlist 1: Eliminate all photos in which the object is blurred or if it’s a human the eyes are closed
- Shortlist 2: Provide all photos with one star which are worth for a reconsideration
- Shortlist 3: Filter all one star photos and provide all pictures with two star which are worth to develop
- Develop all two star photos
- Export developed photos as JPG files on the C: drive
- Copy all developed JPG file on the external harddisks 1 and 2
- Copy the LR catalogue file also to the both external harddisks
